Samll44Long time listenerI have been a long time listener to this podcast. It has turned me on the countless beers and breweries. Ryan and Craig work well together and provide great reviews of both local and national beers. I enjoy the games and have also recently backed them on Patreon. Search out the torture test episodes too.

katmatcher400 episodes of excellenceI’ve been listening to Ryan and Craig for a few years now, and they are my go-to source for beer recommendations in Chicagoland and beyond. I can always count on them to not hold anything back and to give great advice. They were way ahead of the curve on awesome breweries like Hop Butcher, Afterthought, and Dovetail. And they are a blast to listen to, making my commute much more tolerable. I still can’t believe they’ve been recording remotely during the whole pandemic, the audio quality is always amazing. Congrats on 400 episodes, and here’s to 400 more!
-
Cory Lazar5 Star Beer PodcastAlways entertaining and covers a wide range of beer styles, themes and blind tastings. Also appreciate the monthly cultured butter reviews. Craig and Ryan are great guys to virtually drink some beer with during these Covid times.
-
New mom 35Fantastic Beer PodcastEntertaining weekly podcast going over a variety of different styles and subjects in the world of beer with more emphasis on the vibrant Chicago beer scene. I’ve listened for about a year now and doing so has introduced me to local breweries in Chicago and parts of the Midwest that I didn’t know even existed. Craig and Ryan continue to make it interesting with their wit and banter as well as the games and end of show beer ratings. A fun listen every week.
-
5639175 bottle capsThese guys are hilarious. They make my commute to work almost enjoyable. Now, I my not agree with their awkward taste palettes all the time but that honestly doesn’t matter. They review a wide selection of beer and always keep it interesting, even a table beer show was fun. Cheers.
-
to live and let stoutThe Untappd of BeercastsMy favorite podcast on beer. Great selections, fun themes and helps to inspire my poor Untappd reviews. Plus local to Chicago which is always good!
-
nidetzgEntertaining and insightfulCraig and Ryan make this show as much fun as it is educational, about beers and beer festivals in Chicago and around the country. They don’t take themselves too seriously which makes this show an easy and worthy listen. I’m a huge fan!
-
AJAABPThe Real Deal Funny Beer Chicago Beer PodcastThey have relationships with the whole industry and they know their stuff. Also, they are actually Funny. Love the show, especially the interviews and blind tasting ones!
-
NofmxcGreat show!Being a beer lover in Chicago, this podcast is the best thing ever! Love the blind taste tests, I feel like it gives a true unbiased review of interesting beers. I actually went out and bought a Pipeworks S'mores after listening to the S'more blind taste.
-
WJTH18Good show..... but....I really wish that they kept Politics out of a beer show. That was the reason I stopped listening to GBH. Keep the anti Trumps rants out and please stick to beer.
-
Caleb MFConsistently high quality contentAs a Chicago area beer consumer, I really enjoy this podcast. I tend to gravitate towards stouts, Belgians, and porters, but Seth Rogen and Iowa man have made me appreciate pales and ipa’s a lot more. While their tasting notes are spot on, I keep downloading because they’re funny and have a great dynamic.
-
CoachBettsRare Hazy MouthfeelGreat beer nerdery from ...Greg & Brian...

ChrisMButlerCouple yearsBeen listening a couple years now. I typically enjoy listening to Average Midwest Guy & Ray Romano talk about beer. I especially enjoy the tangents they devolve into. Good info, and quality content. If you’re into listening to other people get drunk. Which I do. Cheers.

Agustus GI Want to Love ItGood topics. Entertaining hosts. I'll come back from time to time when I see a topic that catches my interest and soon remember why I stopped listening. Guys, please back off the mic when you're tasting. The constant lip smacking is brutal especially with earbuds.
-
Swit78Great Podcast!A friend of mine informed me of this podcast and I'm very glad he did! Ryan and Craig are very fun to listen to and I definitely like the little side games they play some episodes as well (hint, hint!). This is an entertaining podcast for anyone from the casual craft beer drinker to the diehard connoisseur. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
-
Bobes105Beer knowledge + humor = great podcastAs far as beers go these guys are 50% Chicago, 25% Midwest, 22% US, and 3% World. Seriously can Europe get some love? Their beer knowledge is very good and tasting notes are easy to relate to. What really ties the podcast together is the humor. Their music choices and pop culture references are on point. Once they got their podcast feet under them, audio quality and editing are great. Definitely worth a listen if you are into beer tasting and beer culture.
-
machinedog14Couple of Chicago Shelf TurdsThis is the Barrel Aged New England IPA of beer podcast. Ryan and Craig are awesome and put the show together in a very fun and informative way. Hopefully the consistency and quality of the show doesn't suffer now that they're owned by Hershey's.
-
Tjo9865 starGreat show, helps me keep up to date on the chi-town beer scene.

AlexmobroFor Craft Beer Newbies and Old Pros AlikeI'm a relative newcomer to the craft beer landscape and to the podcast, but I've quickly become a weekly listener and beer guzzler. I like that the podcast is Chicago-centric because that seems to be the Napa Valley of craft beer at the moment, but looking back at the episode archive they also clearly do a lot of out of state episodes, too. Many thanks to Ryan and Craig for making me laugh as I learn even more about beer, and for inspiring me to visit Chicago soon. I hear it smells really creamy there.
-
HdieselGreat, fun, listenable podcastI'm a fellow midwesterner ( not Chi-towner but this still feels relevant,) only a couple episodes in, and I already know this is a beer related podcast I can get into and enjoy. Mostly about beer. No overly annoying tangents. No erroneous homer sports discussions. BEER. They seem knowledgeable and bonus- their voices aren't annoying. Subscribe & enjoy.

cnyrenRe-review: Vintage 2015Decided to re-review after downloading their *Vintage 2015* podcasts ahead of a few weeks vacation over New Years. Finally got to enjoy some of the famous old episodes and inside jokes (Breakfast Beers and donuts was great). Interestingly, I noted a lot less of Craig's characteristic high pitched cackling, though a similar amount of Ryan's *dad jokes*. Love this podcast.
-
VladimiracleGreat job covering Midwest and national beersEntertaining! Illuminating! THey don't get (too) drunk! Is it the perfect beer podcast? Maybe! When I drive around listening to it, it makes me want to sample those tasty beers they try! Also, as a fellow (suburban) Chicagoan, I can go get most of what they drink! I love it!
-
Nbrock24Great showLove the show and the format. Great to hear both about beers that you haven't had as well as your old favorites
-
Berky345/5Gushy is the better of the three hosts. Great Chicago guys talking beer. Funny banter and all around good guys.
-
KG RunnerLove This PodcastHillarious and an insightful. Makes me wish I was there sampling the beers with them. Just spent the last weekend in Chicago and thanks to this show, I knew which breweries I wanted to hit. Thanks for putting this show on!
-
chadtxblueNiceGreat podcast. Wish there were more episodes
-
jjsissmanChicago Beer Hype Machine! These guys are amazingly entertaining while also be helpful (usually.....) in their beer, brewery and event reviews! Tune in for laughs and leave wanting to drink lots of craft beer, thanks guys!
-
trubgergOutstanding Beer Podcast! These guys have a way of describing beer that makes everyone understand exactly what it tastes and smells like. Candy is a common descriptor, and baby diapers have also been referenced for aroma. That sounds weird, but it makes sense when you listen to an episode. If you're into music there is also the fun of following along with the musical theme during the 30 second breaks in between their beer samplings. Craig and Ryan are clearly guys who love discovering beer and who want to share what they find with you. Listen! Now!
-
Tmanno1It's like Pringles, once you pop...I can't stop listening. I just recently got into listening to podcasts and ABV Chicago is one of my go-to channels to listen. They are almost funny and it's great to hear about different beers, both local and beyond. Keep up the great work!
-
DSadowI'm hooked! My husband and I began listening to this podcast a few months ago and we love discussing each episode and have learned so much more about different styles of beer. I listen while I am at the gym or doing my morning run on the trail. It is a great distraction from my run and gets me excited for my celebratory beer I get to have later. Keep up the great work guys!
-
Bs11617015Great podcastThese guys are fun to listen too. Listening to them is like sitting with my friends drinking and discussing beers.
-
Jim.A great podcast for expert craft beer lovers.I started listening to ABV Chicago because I was looking for craft beer podcasts to listen to and these guys were local. The hosts Craig and Ryan are pretty funny but this show is really only recommended for people who are already way into craft beer. ABV Chicago is 2 guys looking at, smelling, tasting, and then rating beers. If it wasn’t for how good the hosts are this show would be super boring. My only complaint about this show is that lately they have gotten militant about things they don’t like. They’ve used the same Bourbon County “Target Character Drift” joke for about 16 consecutive episodes now. And when they don’t like a beer it becomes the butt of jokes for many episodes going forward. I’d rather hear about the good beers than constantly ragging on the bad ones.
-
Kreg02Not just for ChicagoFunny & knowledgable! Just started listening but have learned a lot. I have already been introduced to a few breweries I'm planning on checking out that I probably would have overlooked when at my bottle shop. Keep up the great work!
-
chicagoanesthesiaOne of my top podcastsA truly great craft beer podcast. Perfect mix of humor and beer talk. I enjoy the focus on Chicago beers, but they also cover beers from elsewhere in the Midwest and beyond, as well as beer-related events. One of my go to podcasts while riding on the brown line in the morning. Cheers.
-
MoreBeerYayGreat Listen if you are in CHI or notThe host, Craig & Ryan, are really entertaining and informative. While it follows the tried and true taste 5-6 beers, talk and rank format of beer podcast, they mix it up with funny games and entertaining stories about the Chicago beer scene. Don’t worry if you don’t live in Chicago, you will still enjoy the podcast. You might not be able to find all the beers where you live, but the information is general enough that you still take away a great amount of knowledge. Besides, maybe it makes you want to visit. Certain did for me.

Aaron KerkvlietHow the Pope is Chosen - James TateAny poodle under ten inches high is a toy. Almost always a toy is an imitation of something grown-ups use. Popes with unclipped hair are called “corded popes.” If a Pope’s hair is allowed to grow unchecked, it becomes extremely long and twists into long strands that look like ropes. When it is shorter it is tightly curled. Popes are very intelligent. There are three different sizes. The largest are called standard Popes. The medium-sized ones are called miniature Popes. I could go on like this, I could say: “He is a squarely built Pope, neat, well-proportioned, with an alert stance and an expression of bright curiosity,” but I won’t. After a poodle dies all the cardinals flock to the nearest 7-Eleven. They drink Slurpies until one of them throws up and then he’s the new Pope. He is then fully armed and rides through the wilderness alone, day and night in all kinds of weather. The new Pope chooses the name he will use as Pope, like “Wild Bill” or “Buffalo Bill.” He wears red shoes with a cross embroidered on the front. Most Popes are called “Babe” because growing up to become a Pope is a lot of fun. All the time their bodies are becoming bigger and stranger, but sometimes things happen to make them unhappy. They have to go to the bathroom by themselves, and they spend almost all of their time sleeping. Parents seem incapable of helping their little popes grow up. Fathers tell them over and over again not to lean out of windows, but the sky is full of them. It looks as if they are just taking it easy, but they are learning something else. What, we don’t know, because we are not like them. We can’t even dress like them. We are like red bugs or mites compared to them. We think we are having a good time cutting cartoons out of the paper, but really we are eating crumbs out of their hands. We are tiny germs that cannot be seen under microscopes. When a Pope is ready to come into the world, we try to sing a song, but the words do not fit the music too well. Some of the full-bodied popes are a million times bigger than us. They open their mouths at regular intervals. They are continually grinding up pieces of the cross and spitting them out. Black flies cling to their lips. Once they are elected they are given a bowl of cream and a puppy clip. Eyebrows are a protection when the Pope must plunge through dense underbrush in search of a sheep.

MK the GeneralThe Anti-ISIS of BeerSome questions in life have obvious answers. Best James Bond? Connery. New York or Chicago deep dish pizza? New York. Should I ever open Limburger cheese in any public area where it may enter someone's nasal passages? No, never. Is ABV Chicago the most entertaining craft beer podcast? Definitely. Craig and Ryan take the already fun subject of craft beer and add to it great insights, thoughtful soundtracks and top notch Beers Against Humanity gameplay to take perceived alcoholism to the next level! (Of what, I'm not exactly sure.) Don't let the terrorists win - subscribe to the podcast, open up your new favorite beer and enjoy.
-
KdebonzoSmells creamyCraig and Ryan have the podcast game in a choke hold. The show starts with their theme song which almost reminds me of a Phish song and gets stuck in your head immediately. The musical selections between beers fit in well for the theme of each and keep the show moving. Occasional drinking games like Beers Against Humanity" add to the fun. Give it a listen if you drink Hillstead Farms or Trill beers on the reg. Cheers!
-
KMBChicagoReally well doneNew to the ABV podcast, ran across it on a twitter mention, and I couldn't be more excited about it after just 2 episodes. The hosts are fantastic, they have an excellent show demeanor and sound like radio professionals in their delivery and comfort behind the mic. The show itself is genuinely exceptional with the content, their descriptions and discussions of the particular beers. The sound quality is amazing given that it's two guys recording on their own, will be recommending to everyone. Great Podcast!!
-
RandoLOLThis is the Best Beer PodcastCraig and Ryan will make you want to drink a lot of really good beer. Listen to an episode and subscribe. Do it. Do it now.
-
Bill MilgramExcellent Chicago-based Beer Podcast! This is a very enjoyable, mostly review-based podcast that is perfect for the craft beer lovers of Chicago. The two hosts know their stuff and they provide plenty of insights into some of your favorite beers. Oh, and they're quite funny! Very entertaining even if you've had the beers they review. Feel free to friend me on Untappd so we can keep in touch! My username is "beelzebill". Keep it up guys! Would love to do a fancy tasting with you some day!
-
josephsibleybridgesFun beering from one of my favorite cities.Chicago is one of my favorite beer cities. This podcast gives a good walk through on various styles that all imbibers will love. Also, elves and gnomes will seep into your ears as you listen.
-
MarieCumminsChicago's FinestAlways a fun and quick moving podcast with an emphisis on Chicago and Mid Western craft beer. Funny, informative and professional. Plus they really know how to choose amazingly special guests (I'm not sure what you mean by "biased"???)
-
SehillDo yourself a favor and listen!Great podcast about beer tastings, beer news, and tap rooms/breweries (and occasionally the deep meaning of life when they have the token Korean celebrity chef Dennis on the show!). Great show themes…great events…you'll laugh….you'll cry….just listen.
-
Rmp1234Great stuffReally enjoying the show guys! Keep up the good work!
-
Rknox12Some wordsI have left some words, I now am patiently waiting for a "shout-out" on the podcast that will be followed by swearing, taking my name (or God's name) in vain and probably a dick joke. Keep up the good work and F*ck Alton Brown. ♥️ Rodney from beertasteslike
-
Bingwersen1013Waka Flocka FabulousNo pretension here! Ryan and Craig have a great chemistry on the mic while providing informative reviews and discussing off the wall topics. Quality sound!
-
The_Count_Winner Winner Chicken DinnerThese lads certainly know their stuff. When it comes to a show about beer, this one's go it all, beer, pizzazz, humans, jokes, beer, informations, indigestion, sometimes sugary sports drinks, and beer. The only way to I see to improve the show, would be more philosophy and comics discussion. Personal preference aside, however, these are top shelf chaps talking about world class beer. Did I mention beer? I dub this the greatest beer show in the galaxy, long may they reign!
-
Claude3irgeGreat podcastCraig & Ryan have great chemistry and that makes for a fun & conversational show. The ability to discuss the beers without condescension makes this a really good podcast for newbies and long time beer drinkers alike. Highly recommend this podcast.
-
MC JohnsenHilarious Chicago Beer-focused TastingsWhen I described this podcast to my husband I said, "Listening to this beer podcast is like riding an amazingly delicious, emotional roller coaster. I laughed so hard that I cried and then I actually wept a little because they shared a very moving story about the reason one of the beers they were tasting existed." While that described episode #43 specifically, this podcast is always funny. Their verbose descriptions of beers are obviously coming from a knowledgeable place, but they seem like a couple of goofballs who like to have fun, and there's no pretension whatsoever. I guarantee that you will laugh.
