tc-gtdSuper hopeful wisdom for handyman startupsI’ve been listening to this podcast for a little over a year now as I have started my handyman podcast. I’ve found each episode to be quite helpful. Lots of wisdom that is very practical, and helpful with mindset as a small business owner. I appreciate the down to earth and relatable nature.

Linds0916Great Podcast For Business OwnersMe and my husband have a Handyman Business. My husband is an amazing Jack Of All Trades with years experience in several trades and a skilled professional. However he knows nothing about what it takes to own or operate an business which is where I come in. Most of my career I have managed several different type of businesses. This is the first time I owned a business and I knew nothing about an Handyman business when we started our business. I have several podcast that are my go to when I have a question or want to know more about handyman businesses as I grow our business. This is one of my top 3 podcast.

MruselessWould be 5 stars if it was still activeDan had a great podcast, sorry I found it so late. Full of great advice, tips and tricks. I downgraded my rating to 3 stars because he abandoned the podcast in favor of monetizing his web classes. I’m sure that’s good too but I cant speak from experience there. Unfortunately this is abandoning his own advice, in one of his podcasts he cites the importance of doing website content like blogs to lure in paying customers and build credibility. Perhaps if he continued podcasting about his business, he would draw in more people like me and continue to build credibility.

Jared robGreat info on starting a new businessI binge listened to this entire podcast in a couple days. Dan is great and transparent with his business. There are great interviews towards the end. I just started a handyman business recently and Dan provides some great ideas and tips on building a handyman/services based business. Thanks Dan!

SarahErickson1985Great informationA few episodes in now as husband and I are thinking of going all in on his tile and remodel skills and opening a business for shower remodels and more. He is very handy and our business would most likely include some handyman type of stuff. But even though it is not our main vision, I have found this podcast to be very insightful in the area of getting a business going on your own and not working for a larger company. Definitely recommend.

UnschoolDadGreat informationI came across Dan’s website which led me here, and even though the information here is from a few years ago, it is great info on starting a handyman business. I’m just get going in my area and this has gotten me excited about the potential. I’ve listened to about 8 podcasts so far and there is some great stuff here.

DonkeycrazedTime and Money saving PodcastThis podcast will save you money and yields a high return on the time invested to listen to it. At first listen this Podcast comes across as targeted for beginners. But the more I listened I realized it’s packed with content that only someone working in the trenches would know. Dan gives you a real world insight to running a handyman business included with specifics about scenarios that are inevitable to arise. Sure you could not listen to Dan and find those things out for yourself. Or you could listen to Dan and adjust your business model accordingly and save yourself from so many headaches and pitfalls that cost time and money. Thanks for putting this together Dan. It’s given me a high level perspective of all the minor aspects that add up to make a customer service based handyman business great.

The big sleezyHey Big DHey Big D, lol. Thanks for doing this podcast, it’s pushing me into starting my handyman business, been debating for a long time and wasn’t sure how, but your podcast are helping me figure that out. My main craft is, Electrical, 15years, so I’ll push that and I know how to do a lot more so I’ll be accepting small jobs in other trades to build my experience more. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. My issues would be billing and charging people.Thank you Big D. Keep up the good work.

Mountainman747Great adviseI only wish more guys with twice the experience would listen to what you have to say. Too many so called handymen are war hardened from the business aspect and end up making a bad name for the handyman trade leaving a bad taste in the mouths of customers. Be humble and deliver value you will never go hungry.
-

AdmiralkingSo Helpful!I found this podcast while searching for anything related to the handyman business. I never thought I would find the answers to every question holding me back from starting my own business. Thanks to Dan Perry, I have just that in the Handyman Startup. Between the website and podcasts I have transformed my "it would be nice someday" aspiration into a reality. I followed Dan's recommendations to the letter and now have my handyman license, business name and logo, area of town I will be focusing on, and website built with WordPress. I have such high hopes for the future instead of an insurmountable mountain of questions. Thank you Dan for this resource!! Mike Las Vegas, NV

BrianJBuckleyExcellent InsightI am very glad to have found The Handyman Startup podcast by Dan Perry. The advice given is insightful while concise. Taking methods and tips from the podcast and applying it to your business model is seamless. I have especially enjoyed the interviews from other handymen around the country. Initially I was skeptical (thinking how good could this information be if it is free), but Dan has proven me wrong, as quickly became surprised at the knowledge gained with listening to each episode. The podcast is a great tool for any of you, like me, who get stuck in the dreaded "analysis paralysis" mode, as it inspires you to take the next step to grow your home service business. Keep up the great work Dan!

TxPropertyGuyEntertaining & InsightfulWho would have thought a podcast could develop from a niche in the contracting trades? Dan certainly did and brings great perspective to what it takes to launch a startup in the handyman service industry. Applicable to would-be and established entrepreneurs who like to work with their hands and scale into larger operations. It's all here. Especially great interviews with those who are succeeding in the trade industries. The interview with Christy Webber (EP15) was hilarious and equally inspiring. Congrats "Big D" Perry for bringing dignity, innovative thinking and business acumen to the blue collar professional, who continues to be as vital as ever to our world!

RKPunkGood Business SenseI am planning on starting my own business in the next year, but it has nothing to do with being a handyman. I have found that your advice and knowledge of best business practices can apply to many types of businesses. "Handyman" is what you do, but the tips and insights provided by this podcast really shed light on any type of service-oriented business. It's about connecting with people; identifying a need and then providing a solution. It's about knowing who you are and what you do as a company, and serving with confidence and quality. I'm subscribing to the podcast because you not only give good ideas, but more importantly because I've been inspired with ways to implement those ideas into my own business plan. Keep up the good work!

Yankee Doodle HandySuper helpful tips and adviceBig D's podcasts have been extremely helpful to me. I had been following his blog since about 6 months after he started it, after I found his blog when searching for information about starting a handyman business. Initially I thought he was crazy and couldn't believe that he quit his engineering job to start up a handyman business, and then I thought he was even more nuts for sharing all of his financial data and experiences online. But by doing this Big D has shown readers and listeners how he achieved independence and that taking a leap into the unknown can bring you happiness and success. Big D can probably say without a doubt that he works for the best boss in the world (himself). I only recently downloaded his podcasts, and have listened to them all several times over. This stuff is gold for anyone who is thinking about starting a handyman business. These podcasts have really helped boost my confidence and have helped steer me in the right direction. I am just getting started and I already feel ahead of the game thanks to all of the advice given by Big D and the people he has interviewed. I've already avoided a lot of beginner mistakes and I look forward to reading and listening to more great content. Keep it coming Big D!
-

Glen BettsInformative tips and helpBig D does a great job covering the basic needs of a handyman getting started. These tips are very helpful. Even for people like me that have been doing this type of work for several years, there is always room for improvement and new tips to learn.

DChu220A Must Subscribe For Any Small Business OwnerBeyond the concepts that Big D does a great job of preparing and laying out clearly, I love this podcast because Big D finds a lot of fantastic interviews with successful business owners who bring a lot of fantastic insight into what has made them successful. I'm not a handyman myself, but I still find his information very useful.

Sunshine11404Great ContentI enjoy every podcast I have listened to so far. I just found you a couple of weeks ago and I do a lot of driving, so listening to podcasts are a great use of my time. The things you and the people you interview say are always thought provoking. I may already know a little about the subject, but I always learn more. I also appreciate that you sound very down to earth and human. Thank you and I really look forward to hearing more excillent podcasts.
-
Balls DeeepAwesomeHave to say the interview with the social media expert was kinda lame. Not going to generate leads posting updates on your status, gets kind of annoying. Other episodes great though

MikeG-MEHLifeline for HandymenThis is unbelievable! A few years ago, I basically did what Dan did and took a leap of faith and left my desk job for what I love to do. Everyone, but my wife said I was crazy. Being a handyman is kind of a hit a miss kind of a business. Finding a truly valuble resource for a handyman is nearly impossible until now. I recently found "Big D" and am glad I did. I am fortunate that ALL of the things he talks about, I've gone through I just haven't been able to put the pieces together quite so well. I have always believed in providing a quality service. It's easy to get down when there really is no "standard" for a handyman and people question your pricing to where you start to believe them. NOT the wrong pricing just the WRONG CUSTOMER! This is AWESOME! I can't thank Dan enough. I truley feel like I have been given new energy and confidence to take on bigger and more challenging jobs, turn down the jobs I don't like, ask for the money, and be comfortable and productive with the time I'm not working.

DbartyzelJust what I neededI found your podcast a day ago and couldn't be more excited. I have been wanting to do this but my worries and self doubt have been holding me back. Thank you for being so much like me and succeeding despite that. You have a fan in me.
