SAD OLIGARCH

WHAT HAPPENED TO RUSSIA'S DEAD OLIGARCHS?

Since January 2022, more than 12 of Russia's wealthiest oligarchs have been found dead. One was poisoned with frog venom. One was found hanged on a handrail with his wife and children killed with an axe. Several fell out of high windows. All of the deaths are suspicious. Russia says most of them were coincidental suicides--that the oligarchs were simply depressed. I don't think so.

Sad Oligarch is a modern true crime style investigative podcast series that looks into each Russian oligarch death in 2022/2023, unravelling a dark tale of Kremlin corruption and Russian political influence across the world.

Forget the Ukrainian people, we need to know about the Russian millionaires
Why does this podcast exist? The people of Ukraine are being invading, killed, attacked, kidnapped, and other terrible things done to them by the Russian government but for some reason this podcast thinks that we need to care more about the Russian millionaires and oligarchs that the Russian government are getting rid off. What? Wait for the war to end if you really care of the Russian government’s purge of their wartime position. There are other more important things to to do podcasts about regarding the war in Ukraine.

    Fascinating and well researched
I had heard of a few of these deaths but never heard any details. Always wondered what is going on. A really well done, and suspenseful podcast

    Fantastic
Fascinating subject, done well. Great production, intriguing arc/flow. Solid reporting, interesting interviews. Smart analysis, thorough research. And the dude’s voice rules.

    Soooo many ads
Love the podcasts put out by Jake but like every four minutes there’s an equally long ad break. It’s ridiculous. I get that ad revenue pays for this stuff but It makes me want to find other sources of info that don’t have as many ad breaks.

Amazing! Just Wow! Commit to listening to the whole series.
An outstanding factual podcast! The first few podcasts, I wasn’t sure where this was going. But I kept listening. The last two episodes solidified everything for me. Amazing research under difficult circumstances-I was worried for your safety. I appreciated your wrap-up analysis.

    What's with the enunciation
There's radio voice and then there's whatever this is. Painfully slow and over-enunciated speech makes for a distracting listen. This has all the makings for a really great podcast. Please stop trying so hard. Couldn't make it past 2 episodes.

A fascinating look into the suspicious deaths of Russian oligarchs.
A fascinating look into the suspicious deaths of Russian oligarchs. A sequel is needed!
  • lol what's wrong with this alb
    Surprised
I didn’t kno how to feel when I first saw this podcast. Some of the stories at first seemed absurd considering only circumstantial evidence but you showed over and over that this was a pattern. Last 2 episodes regarding prig really solidified how great a podcast this is. Thanks for your hard work

    Really good! But….
Way too many commercials. I zone out because the breaks are so long and then forget to zone back in.

    Only got through first ep
The contents of this podcast are interesting and informative (I think??) I had so much trouble listening, though, because of the slow, overly-enunciated speaking. I don't think I can do it anymore. His voice sounds normal on 1.25x speed, so I listened to it on 1.25x. But then everyone else whom he brings in for more specialized info then sounds unnaturally fast

    WHY
I really want to like this podcast. The subject is fascinating but please tone down the constant background music and weird, fake audio voice. I try to listen but I’m overstimulated a minute into the episode and want to turn it off.
  • Nullity
    Had promise but
… not so much. Unsubbed after episode 3.

    I tried
The premise of this show had such promise. “Why are so many Russian oligarchs showing up dead.” Cool I love hearing about the crazy corrupt internal politics of Russia. But I was let down. If the first two episodes are any indication of the remainder of the season it’s just repeating the opening line 50 different ways followed by baseless speculation. I thought there would be some real reporting,

    Darkly humorous
Am I a bad person for wanting this show to run 100+ episodes? Probably. Am I bad person for laughing out loud at times? I don’t think so

    Fantastic
This is such a well-researched and thought out podcast. In light of the ongoing war in Ukraine and Russia’s internal political and economic tensions, these oligarchs’ deaths raise questions and suspicions that need to be explored. Kudos to Jake and his team for being smart enough to connect the dots and brave enough to publicize their findings.

    Excellent Journalism
Well thought out and measured approach to a rather ambiguous and murky subject . To be honest, I didn’t know this was a thing until I heard this show. Once again, Jake and co brought an under reported topic to the light for me.
  • DwarfGrumbles
In-depth reports on a topic barely covered elsewhere.
Very engaging and detailed reporting. The subject matter is hardly covered at all in US and UK media. Eventually, I hope the podcast will turn to educated discussion about connecting the “what” to some more detailed “why” speculations.

    Good Times
Good reporting on a subject I haven’t seen much info on.
  • Hardwork247
    Great in depth reporting!!!
Love this podcast! I learn so much from him. He also did a series on Q-anon that was fantastic! But on a serious note.. dude..your voice is freaking AWESOME!!! I would pay whatever I could to have your voice as my Siri on my phone!! I happened to hear your voice on another podcast (I think it was the ponzi playbook?) and I got chills because I wasn’t expecting it. You and your team are doing incredible work! Awesome job!

Jake Hanrahan has this voice that makes you feel like you are about to be murdered.

    Amazing journalism, riveting subject matter
Jake is the man, check out his Patreon: Popular Front.

    Sad podcast
This could have been a very interesting investigation but instead it’s a low-effort attempt to make mountains out of speculative molehills and lard them with ads. The first episode is a Jenga tower of speculation about a hunting knife. Don’t waste your time.
  • A1312A
    Awesome and though provoking.
As always Jake Hanrahan does an awesome job. The show is only a couple episodes in but making great points on a story I knew nothing about beforehand. I’m sure the rest of the series will be just as good!
  • Michelle0511
    Excellent
Really well done. A must listen!

    Tension
Jake Hanrahan is such a good journalist, storyteller and presenter! This show is well researched, informative and tense. Jake has great taste in truly chilling background music..
  • vieillard gauchiste
    Hanrahan is a legend
Don't walk, run. Everything this guy touches is incredible, nobody gets closer to the action, deeper into the story. Jake Hanrahan is carrying the torch for frontline journalism.
  • JDJohnd0e
    Hanrahan doesn’t disappoint
The gruff vocals of Hanrahan make zoning out in a thousand-mile-stare all the more impossible. Slava Ukraini!
