Covenant Hermeneutics and Biblical Eschatology

Theologian Kim Burgess likens systematic theology to dissection and biblical theology to vivisection. While both methods seek to understand what the Bible is saying, one works in bits and pieces, while the other works to understand the Bible as an organic whole. Traditional evangelical interpretations are too often informed by the dissection method and less by vivisection.

    Cleared up fog.
I am a blind man with artificial, eyeballs in my head, in other words, I have prosthesis. A lot of people tell me that I may not have eyes, but the spiritual eyes of my heart are opened. this podcast is a blessing, it teaches truth.

    Thank You
I have been working through these issues for the last 7-8 years. I was a pastor in the SBC when I first came across them and had to honestly teach where I was. This led to me being told to “step down” and leave the church I was leading. More recently I was asked to leave a job with a ministry due to my honesty over where I stand on this issue and this also has lead to real isolation and restriction within my church family. I have always been honest with my pastor and elders about where I stand on these issues and that has been acceptable as long as I don’t talk about it with any other person attending the church. At the end of the day sometimes I have felt crazy for seeing scripture the way that I see it and I also feel like there is this “secret” part of my Christian life that has to be hidden or it will cause division. These talks have been so refreshing and uplifting to my soul. The time that was put into them and care that was taken to display thoughts and “showing your work”has been really amazing. Thank you for being honest about the complexity of the topic and even for being comfortable with the mystery of some of the destinations of scripture. I am very grateful to the LORD for bringing me to this discussion. I have a lot to think about.

    Good questions. Strong answers.
Appreciate the careful, methodical approach in shining Biblical light on the murky waters of eschatology with a covenant hermeneutic. Thanks to Gary and Kim for “laying it all out on the table”. While I don’t yet understand or agree with it all, this podcast is a good and welcomed work.

Amazing to have scripture tied across the Old and New Testament to read it the way it was intended. Scholarly but yet able to follow along.

Be like these scholars, be a Berean
As true Bereans, Gary and Kim walk through the scriptures while building an exegetical case for the accomplish-and-applied nature of the New Covenant taking notice of audience relevancy and the oft-left out Greek word mello. Great work, gents.

Loving the discussion so far. Keep up the great work. This is ground breaking stuff and is going to open up much needed discussion on the topic of eschatology.

    Teaching That’s Where It At
I’ve listened to Gary for a number of years now, and Kim is a welcome addition to teachers I trust and turn to. This is a pressing topic and I look forward to what God will show me through these guys.

    Most Excellent Teaching!!
I have had the honor of knowing Gary and his studies indirectly for approximately 30 years. His podcasts are a staple with me and I have been through most of them three or more times. I love apologetics and eschatology. These podcasts weave both disciplines together wonderfully. Sometimes there are the almost imperceptible nuggets of facts that pass between Eric and Gary which have you thinking, “HEY… what was that?!!” You rewind 20 seconds and realize that they had kicked out a monumental fact of great worth to be used in a rational discussion regarding the faults of Dispensationalism. I have made an attempt to obtain the list of books that are referenced in these podcasts such that my library is enhanced with good solid study material. Wish they had 2,000 podcasts that I could study.
