GeorginaRae123Best source of unbiased information about pregnancy and birth!!I LOVE listening to Sarah and Charli- they are incredibly informed, passionate, and hilarious to boot! They provide completely unbiased information that is based in science and well documented studies. They truly believe in informed consent and discuss ALL options for their clients to set them up with the proper information to make the best decision for THEMSELVES. I also really admire how they talk about the medical model of care- its strengths as well as its limitations. There is clearly mutual respect between them and the hospital based care providers they interact with, which speaks volumes about Sarah and Charli and their professionalism and knowledge of pregnancy and birth. If you want to know more about pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, etc. LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST. It’s incredible and you won’t regret it.

13katrThe best midwifery podcast!Such a well rounded, informative, interesting, and at times hilarious midwife podcast! Have learned SO much! I’m just starting to think about trying to conceive and this podcast has made me SO much less anxious and 100% set on having a home birth ❤️
-
Lexi R.B.My favorite homebirth podcast!I love the midwife perspective, all of their technical explanations, and myth busting. Charlie and Sarah are funny and so easy to listen to, I’ve listened to all of their episodes! It’s a nice mix of birth stories told by their clients and education. Keep them coming ladies!

LSJ1920Good information, but “inclusive” language is very annoying.Like the title says, this podcast has good information, and the hosts are pleasant to listen to, but the “inclusive” language is so irritating. We are *women*. Only women have a uterus, can give birth, and can breastfeed. We aren’t “birthing people”. It sounds so removed and dystopian to call us that.
-
Reagan 555Give it a listen if you like dehumanizing language. If you like being referred to as a “birthing person” then by all means give them a listen. But after about the 5th time I couldn’t take it and shut it off. What a ridiculous thing to say as a midwife. We are WOMEN. Our bodies are amazing and men cannot experience the things we can experience. Stop stripping womanhood down and using offensive language to try to be “inclusive”. What a gross way to talk about women and birth.

skyandersonTotally worth listening toListening to this podcast made me feel a lot more knowledgeable on things I had no idea about as a first time mom. Before deciding to go into the care of Hearth & Home, I listened to a few of their podcasts. It helped make my decision a no brainer when I heard how funny, educated and personable they were. Before even my first prenatal with them I felt like I already knew them. Most of my questions were answered before I ever had to ask them anything due to listening to their podcast. I can’t recommend enough!
-
jessla44Funny, sweet, empoweringI love listening to Sarah and Charlie. They break it all down, make you laugh, and just stay super human and in touch the whole time. I've listened to every single episode and I just hope they keep 'em coming! Thanks for being in my life, you guys!
-
SeamuhA must listen for dads!As an expecting father this show gave me the knowledge and strength to prepare for our home birth. Sarah and Charli are so wonderful to share their knowledge. I can’t recommend this show enough to expecting parents. It really helped us make informed decisions through both of our birth experiences.

DallasLivingAnti-Woman WordingThis podcast has good information so I try to overlook how they say “person with a uterus.” As a feminist and lover of birth, it’s really offensive that she uses wording that strips women of the glory they deserve for being able to bring life into the world. Women can get pregnant and have babies, not men. It’s an amazing thing only a woman can do. Women need to be CELEBRATED. Saying “people with a uterus” robs women of the credit they deserve. I think they’re trying to be “inclusive” but there are better ways to include people while not robbing women of something amazing that sets them apart from men.
-
Aly414“Birthing person”Not using the word for the only people in the world who can give birth, aka WOMEN. Instantly kills any chance of listen to you.
-
knickodemThe best birth podcast out there!Oh wow, I wish this podcast had been around when I was pregnant with my first baby! Charli and Sarah are brilliant homebirth midwives who seem to beautifully answer all of my questions that I have about birthing at home. I so appreciate their attention to care, emphasis on autonomy and true informed choice, and risk assessment. As a doula, I learn so much from tuning in! Thank you for keeping birth safe + being so wonderful in podcast-form.
-
IwantmyhatbackDirect and unbiased (despite the name) information about birth!Love this podcast! So informative about whatever specific thing your looking for, not full of banter, and really easy to digest information that is not biased in the least. While having Home-birth in the title, this podcast is for anyone and everyone that is; considering becoming pregnant, knows someone who is pregnant, is currently carrying, and even postpartum parents no matter how or where you birthed you will find this podcast one of your favorites if you’re even remotely interested in birth.

kal6394Gender-neutral language for women’s health is frustratingThe hosts sound super knowledgeable and are pleasant to listen to. However, the constant usage of phrases like “people who become parents” (when talking about motherhood-specific things) or “body-feeding” (but then immediately saying “with sore breasts”… ok so breastfeeding) is very off-putting. Gender-neutral language is not something we see overtaking men’s health spaces. Why try to erase all mention of women from something that uniquely belongs to us?
-
jesswieserSo InformativeI love listening to this podcast! It addresses any thoughts + concerns you might have :)
-
GraciousfloorSo helpful and informativeThese midwives are so incredibly knowledgeable, capable, and interesting. It’s clear that they are truly expert at what they do and passionate in serving women at such a crucial point in life. I enjoy listening to their podcast because of their obvious expertise- but also because they cover such a wide range of topics!
-
MommaAllyGEmpowering and InformativeI loved the mix of content these midwives provide! Inspiring birth stories, information by concise topic, and a window into midwifery care! I learned so much and was so inspired by many many episodes of this podcast. I would recommend to anyone giving birth! Thank you, thank you, for doing this. Your dedication to education is unmatched, we are so so lucky to have you all!
-
Julia8989julesSo informative and compassionate!I love listening to this podcast so much. It helped me prepare for the home birth of my dreams by normalizing what physiological birth looks like. I enjoy hearing their perspective and evidence based POV on all things pregnancy, birth and post partum.
-
MomWantingInfoEnough with Birthing “Person”Was great until I couldn’t stand hearing “birthing person” another time.
-
AwsrfthjbvfcbThe Best Home Birth PodcastThis show offers such a great balance of birth education and soul food for pregnant peoples. Sarah and Charli have tremendous warmth and humor. I highly recommend it for anyone on the home birth journey!
-
gamergirl3590Love it but…I love listening but everytime charli or Sarah say “birthing person” “laboring person” or whatnot I want to literally crawl out of my skin it’s so irritating. I would think they’re would be just one place we can acknowledge WOMEN. I am not a “pregnant person”. I am a woman. And the complete erasure of women drives me up a wall. I hate that it’s seeped in here too. Urgh. Drives me nuts. I think I would be able to continue being a listener if it wasn’t for that. Wish I could get past it because they’re beautiful people, doing beautiful work, and really every voice is important in the conversation of physiological birth… It’s 100% a me problem and I know that. I personally love what they’re doing and the information is great… this is just a me thing I can’t get past.
-
MamaPT_Empowering!This show gave me so much perspective on out of hospital births and after listening, I realized my planned hospital birth wasn’t what I really wanted. I switched to a midwifery practice local to me at 32 weeks and it was the best decision I ever made! My midwives made me feel so heard and respected and they still have a very special place in my heart. I don’t know if anyone ever feels prepared for birth but I did feel very empowered with all the information I learned from this show and other sources. I can’t thank you enough for making this information accessible!!!
-
Em LakeBrilliant resourceI’m fortunate to have worked with these brilliant midwives for my own birth and am so grateful for the breadth of information they share in this podcast. I learned so much about pregnancy, birth and postpartum from them both in person and via this podcast, and recommend it to everyone regardless of whether they’re planning a home birth or not. I haven’t found any other providers or cohesive resource where I’m left feeling so well-informed about these topics. Their information helped me feel much more confident and far less afraid of birth over the course of my pregnancy!
-
JLovePeterschmidtWonderfully informativeCharli and Sarah have made an amazing podcast filled with information on CPMs and all things home birth related. I LOVE this podcast. It’s funny and charming and as a student midwife, I’m learning so much and I love hearing all the different stories. What a shame people are giving less than 5 stars because of terminology regarding birthing people. There is so much amazing content in this podcast. Keep it up, we will keep listening!! ♥️
-
E DuchowAmazing evidence based info!I’m a postpartum RN and I have learned so much from these home birth midwives. There is so much amazing content about what out of hospital births look like, how they manage complications, and other helpful info for pregnancy and childbearing. It has given me so much confidence and admiration for the skills of out of hospital providers, and has piqued my interest in having a homebirth myself next time. Highly recommend to anyone having babies or interested in birth!
-
vhartell13Helpful info BUT…“Pregnant person” “Birthing person” “Pregnant partner” Give me a break. Women give birth. Mothers give birth. Please don’t change thousands of years of terminology to pander to a very select few loud individuals.
-
Emmbabe111Canceling women by calling us pregnant peopleIt’s so sad to listen to this podcast, which is otherwise great, and filled with wonderful information and here these ladies referred to us mothers as a “pregnant person.” I’m so tired of this cancellation of women. Scientific fact: Only women can give birth, only we can have the experience of having cycles, getting pregnant and giving birth. It is our honor, and it’s disgusting to me that it’s become main stream to speak of women and mothers this way… especially homebirth Midwives who are journeying alongside women and mothers. You should know better. I can no longer listen to this.
-
Azluv19Appropriate terminologyI love your podcast, but I am really disappointed that your referring to women as laboring person. There biologically can be ONLY laboring WOMEN PERIOD! Do not bend to the tune of the woke terminology. DO better and not strip women from this beautiful gift only women can do.
-
Missouri CPMInformative and enjoyable to listen toI cannot recommend Sarah & Charli’s podcast enough. I regularly send podcast to my clients! They are perfect at presenting evidence best information while also individualizing the application. 😍
-
marieffffffAnother podcast that says “pregnant people”I’m sorry but I cannot take anyone who says “pregnant person” seriously. If you don’t even understand the basic biological fact that only WOMEN get pregnant, not “people” then how can I trust anything that you say ?
-
scodeckSo disappointed…To call women birthing people is extremely degrading! The female body is the only body created to give birth & it is a miraculous, beautiful thing. Why are you purposely trying to erase that from us? I tried to brush it off after the first few times you used that term but it was just too much & I can’t listen. It’s hard bc so much of what you are saying is important but how can you talk about the physiology of birth but then in the same breath say “birthing people” as if a man can give birth?
-
jackbuff17Stop the vocal fryThe constant vocal fry is too distracting and so unprofessional.
-
StallworthysmHate being called Laboring Person but great infoAmazing and encouraging info about homebirths/maternal care for WOMEN. I’m personally offended being reduced to a birthing person, laboring parent, etc but that does not negate the fact they give great info.
-
#truthmatters2023Disappointed…Thanks but no thanks…I am sure there is a ton of great/accurate information on this podcast and these women’s hearts are for their listeners but denying basic biology makes this unlistenable for me. To continually say birthing person makes my body physically recoil along with the fact that it is unscientific to infer that anyone other than biological women can birth a baby. I am looking for somewhere that will discuss matters of homebirth with biological accuracy.
-
GrammasbunionsInformative and FunI discovered this podcast early in my pregnancy. These two incredible midwives have educated my on so many components of birth and home birth. The audio quality is great, hosting skills are fantastic, and they’re both hilarious. I think this podcast would be helpful for anyone who is pregnant, even if they’re not planning a home birth. I appreciate the gender inclusive language and modern approach to an ancient practice. I wish there were more episodes but am genuinely impressed they manage to squeeze this project into their schedules. Thanks for making this!
-
Disappointed new listenerDon’t believe in basic biologyI started listening to this podcast and loved the first episode. Unfortunately I couldn’t finish the second episode I clicked on because I couldn’t stand to hear them deny basic biology by referring to women as birthing persons. If they cannot stand for biological truth, how can you trust them with information regarding your body? No thanks. Plus, it denies the honor women have in their ability to carry and birth babies.
-
handmaidbirthA Helpful ResourceA helpful podcast for learning more about pregnancy and home birth and I appreciate the format of digging into one topic or question about home birth or midwifery care. The increasing usage of depersonalizing language, however, sounds both silly and makes you less credible as experts in women’s health or biology.
-
KotrynaA great listen!I love this podcast! The hosts are really engaging and fun, the sound quality is great, and the content is super interesting and informative. I love to listen on my long daily commutes. Unfortunately I had to take away a star because the hosts keep using the nonsensical ultra-PC term “birthing person” rather than saying woman/mom. “Birthing person” is a modern term that is supposed to be progressive but is actually regressive and demeaning towards women. I don’t understand whom the hosts think they’re actually offending by using the word “women”, but I think it’s just part of their West coast/Portland area culture. I just wish they realized they can use normal language that applies to pretty much 100% of their audience.

Kirsi0927Decision Made!I was heavily considering a home birth. I decided to learn more about it to make my decision. I found this podcast and was able to listen to it on my daily drive to work. This podcast is so informational and so easy to listen to! It gave me all the information I needed to make the decision for myself and my family, as well as be able to answer questions from my close family about why I would have a home birth. I am so grateful for this amazing resource!
-
danielleshulkeConfidence BuildingI love listening to Charli and Sarah! I found them as part of my preparation for having a home birth (after a hospital birth and then a BC birth). I knew I wanted the home birth, and the podcast was great at affirming that decision and helping me feel confident going into that birth. I’m from the PNW and would totally opt to have Charli and Sarah as my midwives for future births if I wasn’t currently living in New Zealand with an amazing midwife relationship already established :) These ladies seem like such personable, calm, thoughtful birth workers, I hope they influence many, many future midwives!
-
AsherArnoldNot a parent, but LOVE this podcastI started listening to the Homebirth Midwife Podcast very early on. I was searching for reassurance after my friend chose home birth, which at the time seemed very scary. This show and the further research it inspired opened my eyes to how birth could and should be. I am not yet pregnant, but feel so grateful to have found this podcast before starting a family. I am now a total homebirth nerd who feels empowered to make decisions in my future births that feel right for me and my family. Thank you Charli and Sarah!
-
LaurawagzLOVE LOVE LOVELately I’ve been loving to hear homebirth podcasts, and this is by far my favorite!! I wish I would live closer to these amazing midwives
-
Lauren / Reno , NevadaMom of three and absolutely love this podcastAfter finishing happy homebirth podcast I was suspicious in my searches that I would find something that was as good as that series . But these ladies just fill my whole heart and I’m laughing and I get butterflies listening to these amazing stories . I have a lot of love for women and children health and often wonder if this is something I could make a career out of . I am 25 years old and 2 years into nursing school pre reqs . So I have a ways to go but this is encouraging and I just know that I can find happiness in a good job . Keep up the podcasts ladies ! I am 34 weeks and addicted . This is our second homebirth and I am just so in love that I get this opportunity to birth safely at home . The girls who get it , get it and the girls who don’t they just don’t . The cascade of interventions are scary and you are doing gods work out here . I’m not even religious it’s just the United States has Terrible pregnancy and delivery care . The hospital is not the safest place you can go anymore and it just really makes my skin crawl that healthy women and babies are facing unessecary interventions that were never needed
-
SanDiegoChristieSo good!I am planning a birth center physiological birth after a super traumatic hospital c section birth. This podcast has been SO helpful! The gals are relatable- it’s like listening to your friends talk. I’ve learned a ton from them. I especially loved the informed consent episode. Highly recommend!!
-
StudentMWThank You!I’m a student midwife and find this podcast so informative. I also appreciate the gender inclusive/affirming language and don’t understand the people that are so offended by inclusive language. Maybe this just isn’t the podcast for them but it it’s definitely for me, thanks!
-
kcostel6Just love it!I am so happy to have recently discovered this wonderful podcast. I’m obsessed with all things birth and love the short, yet super informative episodes! I’m a mama and aspiring future midwife and love to learn from two incredibly educated, practiced midwives out there changing lives. Keep up the incredible work!
-
egreg09It hurts as a woman to be called a birthing person.I am a woman and as a woman, it is hurtful to be called a birthing person. Stop trying to take that away from me. Stop denying science. It sounds anti science. I believe in excepting everybody for who they are but you can’t go and change all the words for a very small percentage of people and just forget about the rest!
-
sarah student midwifeAwesome podcast!Just want to say how much I love your podcast! I’m a student midwife and I listen when I’m driving all around MA and RI going to prenatals and births. its so been so inspiring and also helpful for explaining things to clients and gaining confidence. Much appreciation and love to both of you! ♥️
-
CM-996Love the Content, but Don’t Love the WokenessThis show is extremely informative and interesting, but as soon as I hear “birthing person” or “chest feeding,” I assume the speaker doesn’t know what they’re talking about. It’s unfortunate that we can’t even keep birth about women exclusively.
-
Cee to the JayHomebirth Prep!Thank you for this valuable content. Have listened to most episodes and so appreciate the level of education you’re generously providing so many expecting families!
-
luminous architectureMy new favorite podcast!WOW! So much good, useful information bundled into short and sweet podcast episodes. I find myself easily binge-listening to this podcast because Sarah and Charli are so incredibly personable in their delivery of pregnancy education. I’m not even pregnant yet, and already feel like I have a solid foundation of knowledge that I was completely clueless about a few months ago. Listening to this podcast makes me feel better prepared and super excited for my own pregnancy journey! Thank you so much for creating this space to listen, learn, and empower ourselves!
