I’ve really been enjoying these fun and informative podcasts. Dean’s passion for magic history is evident as he brings the listener along for the ride, sharing the fascinating stories of magic’s most amazing characters.

I love this show because Carnegie is so passionate about telling these stories—and getting them right. He works really hard to put together these stories that flow so well. I always feel inspired after listening.

Carnegie has one of those voices that you could just listen to him reading the phone book! Are there phone books anymore? Well, you get my meaning! The content on top of that, is excellent. I’m learning, but not even aware!

The more I listen, the more I seem to get hooked on the Magic Detective podcast. Dean Carnegie is a affable host and a thorough biographer. I have always considered myself an aficionado of magic history, but Dean has introduced me to magicians I have never even remotely heard of before. I find the podcast compelling, interesting, and overall delightful educating. Please keep these episodes coming as they are infinitely appreciated. Bravo Dean!

I’m a layman where magic’s concerned, but I do love to be fooled-and I love entertainment biography and history. Dean Carnegie’s a professional magician whose passion for the past is infectious in these well-written, thoughtful episodes. Mostly about 30 minutes each, they’re addictive. Try just one-on Houdini, for instance-and you’ll be hooked.

Well researched and flawlessly presented. Listening to this is well worth your time.

This is a combination of magic and real, research-driven history. Every episode (I’ve heard them all) is well-researched and well presented. He is a performer, after all. I very much like the programs and look forward to each new episode.

If you are into magic, history, or magic history, you need not look any further. Dean really knows his stuff, and spends hours of research getting ready for each podcast. It did not take him long to find his footing with his presentation once he started the podcast. He is quite skilled at what he does. I just can’t imagine anyone doing a better job on this topic, and I have thoroughly enjoyed each episode. He also happens to be a nice human being. Our email exchange was a very cool experience for me. Dean is a respected performer and historian. He is also very easy to listen to. Take a listen and you will not be disappointed.

Carnegie is a well-known scholar of magic, and a well-regarded stage magician who, at this writing, is engaged in a national tour. Employing his considerable knowledge, resources and research skills, Dean allows listeners to experience the lives, careers and performances of history's greatest conjurers from Houdini to Henning. The episodes are painstakingly researched, a fact that is belied by the narrator's warm, easy style. There is not only great content for fans of magic, but also performers, as the episodes contain scads of advice, often directly taken from letters and writings from great performers. Favorite episodes include T. Nelson Downs, a neglected figure featured on a presentation containing great information for performers, as well as the episodes about Doug Henning, which are enhanced by Carnegie's affection for and personal experience with this 20th century magic superstar. Good production values, extensive research before going “on air”. As the podcast weaves his tale of magic and stage illusion he ties it to the contemporary events of the time. If you want to appreciate where you are today then know where you have been.

My entire performing career has been centered around magic and the history of magic. This podcast is both entertaining AND informative! I thought I new a lot about magic history, and have learned so much.

My two great interests are history and magic, so this is a great podcast for me. Dean Carnegie delves into some famous, infamous and not so famous personalities who shaped magic from the 1800s to the present. Always somehting interesting there.

If you have an interest in magic, or are a budding magician, then you will love this podcast. I find it to be exceptionally well done, informative, and fun. Please keep up the great work!!
