Doctor Who: The Moment

22

Each week on The Moment, I speak with a different guest about an individual moment in an episode of Doctor Who that means a lot to them: something that really had in impact on them, or that they had a strong reaction to, or that they think a lot about for whatever reason.

    Unique, Heartwarming, Fun
This is a truly original podcast, great format, well produced, sound clips. The host and guests often bring up ideas I’ve never heard of. This podcast is a must listen.

    Utterly charming
With the glut of Doctor Who podcasts out there it’s refreshing to discover one so original and personal. Each episode is unique, intelligent, and thought provoking. Don’t be surprised if you end up binging the lot in an afternoon....

A nice change from the usual approach
There are many podcasts which basically recap individual episodes, and I think this is an interesting alternative approach that catches on, allowing the podcast to skip over the boring stuff to the meat of things. Picking a moment from the entire run of Doctor Who that a guest feels strongly about, and then exploring it in depth, helps to insure that the discussion is centered, in-depth, and passionate. And, in general, I think it's nice to hear how other people have interpreted characters that I myself am very familiar with and have my own, differing, opinions on. On another note: One of the other reviewers took exception to situations where the host or guests make a connection between current events and what happens in the show, but I think that that is exactly the sort of connection that can make something resonant for someone. It seems 100% to be part of the remit of a show like this.

Keep current events and politics out of it
I was interested and listened to the first episode. Sadly, current events and politics were injected into it. I'm not looking for a one-sided, malinformed opinion about what's going on in the world today. There was a promise that it won't be a recurring theme, but I won't be back. Also, most people should realize that you can go back and edit a review, so if you actually HAVE changed your mind, the old review would be gone.

    I was wrong
Wow, iTunes is out here just letting anybody write any nickname they want to, so I guess it's time I came clean. I COULDN'T have been more wrong. Doctor Who thrives in the moments when the audience recognizes that "foreign" isn't a synonym for "scary", so it would be pretty silly of me to think that Who shouldn't be compared to current events. My previous review was so absurd that after I wrote it, I absolutely HAD to come back and correct it. I take back everything I said and actually WILL be returning. This podcast is thoughtful, passionate, and fun. If you're a Doctor Who fan, you're already a "Moment" fan and I'm jealous that you get to experience it for the first time.

take a moment to think of just: fans, love & trust
I love the premise of Tom's podcast. I like the idea that fans make media better through paying love and attention to small moments. You don't have to be a huge doctor who fan to enjoy this podcast (though it helps!), you just have to understand what it's like to be a fan who's found something meaningful in stories.

    Forward and back in Time
I really enjoyed the first two episodes (the only releases as I write this) the first episode touches on The Doctor answering to the cries of children, at the same time of recording the US has become aware of the plight of children and families at the boarder & I’m glad Tom took the time to acknowledge the relevancy of this Doc Who moment with our real life Moment. Our fiction always reflect us and sometimes those reflections aren’t pretty but Doc Who reminds is we can be better, and it’s a choice to be better. Subscribing!

Making me a Doctor Who fan
Doctor Who is one of those huge pieces of pop culture that I didn’t attach to when I was young and has always been a monster I know I would enjoy but just never have started. Listening to Thomas and the guests speak about the show have made me more interested than ever before. It’s thoughtful and entertaining discussion that feels very accessible for a non-fan like me. Going to keep listening and start watching the show soon!

This is exactly what I'm looking for in a Who Podcast
There are too many recap shows, and I already listen to them and am always looking for something more. This is a great aproach to exploring the show more deeply, and it has exactly the right mood to get me into thinking about great scenes. Tom has a great voice which people don't talk enough about when they talk about good podcasts. Thanks I love it!

A showcase of Doctor Who's diversity
Only two episodes in and the show has managed to show off the variety and depth that Doctor Who has. The ever-changing nature of Doctor Who is originally what drew me into it, and now there's a whole show about that. Amazing!

Well he knows what he's talking about...
It's nice hearing intelligent people talk about something and not sound like pretentious snobs about the thing they love.

    Beautiful, touching, and thought-provoking
Two episodes in, and I love this podcast. It’s both a detailed deep-dive into small moments of Doctor Who, and a deep-dive into the way this show can reflect and affect the viewers’ lives. It is beautiful, thoughtful, and touching.
