LtMinderbinderVery good podcastI really enjoyed this show! The topics are interesting, and it talks about history that I haven’t necessarily heard before. The reporting seems well balanced and respectful, accounting for different perspectives of the different historical events being talked about.
-
mhandscoThe bestEverything comes together for me in this podcast. Interest meets *impeccable* writing and delivery. Kudos to the team.

yowerpowerGreat Podcast - Great Title! This is such an interesting podcast! Great combination of geopolitical history and social commentary. To the people offended by the title - it’s the truth and you need to get over it. The colonial past and present of the British Empire is bloody and ruthless. We still feel the consequences of European colonialism all over the world and need to learn from the many mistakes of the past.
-
S. Titchkosky 12Great podcastThis is an amazing! Well written and said, but also any of you giving it one star because you find the title annoying and offensive have you even listened to it? I think not!

#37641Know the truth!People need to know the truth about ALL heritages. Even if it’s offensive, or violent. Please make a Canadian heritage version, American version, and an Australian version. All great empires have dark pasts. Also, if it would be a bit more short, that would be great.

Reviewer1735801Why so offended?I find it amusing that some have been so offended by the title of the podcast! They’re either ignorant of history in general or they simply didn’t even listen to the podcast. Well produced deep-dives into some uncomfortable truths! Hope the podcast keeps going!
-
T from VancouverLove this - more please!Amazing concept and the stories are well told. Would love more of these. Starting to listen again from the beginning. 🤩👌🏼

missniks7HookedThis is my new favourite podcast. I discovered it a week ago and binge-listened to all three seasons in a matter of days. All the while I was thinking, this would make incredible television!!! Glad to hear it actually is a show already and I can get my next fix with visuals. Well done Mark and co.

Djdjdj40506Very offensive title and total misrepresentation of factAn eye catching but very offensive title and this podcast supposedly associated with apparent higher quality media companies? A similar title could have been ‘The lovely baby seals that Canada clubbed to death very recently’ Awful

MoseyBurnsshould be called The Stuff the British SavedThank you Britain for preserving world history and heritage from the kind of ethnic violence and historical erasure common in the countries from which these artifacts came, places where totalitarian communism or religious fundamentalism has led to the destruction of irreplaceable monuments and inscriptions. Perhaps your critics would prefer the Taliban or ISIS or Khmer Rouge to be the protectors of ancient artifacts.

DS11789Very enjoyableI have just started listening to the series, but I am enjoying them a great deal.

Gravity FibreInstantly addictiveThis podcast is amazing. Marc goes in-depth into each topic and brings things full circle in such a compelling way. I almost like it better than the TV show. Much love from Canada!
-
sylvan57One Of The Better Podcasts Out ThereWell researched, well presented, very interesting show. Imagine the indignation and squealing from the Brits if stolen pieces of the crown jewels were on display in museums in Athens or Baghdad?
-

ViccinidecasaSchool curriculum? If I taught high school history classes I would assign these podcasts along side the standard readings. I’ve listened to all of them, more than once, and sent the links to friends. Thanks for the fascinating and thoughtful series, please keep going!
-
nicolewatkinscampbellFascinating stories told compellinglyThis podcast tells stories about British culture and all the cultures that descend from it, that we all need to know. And Mark Fennell tells them in ways that make it hard to stop listening.

Mrs.ArabinGreat StuffTerrific storytelling, superb production values, eclectic, insightful guests, wicked black humour and sharp moral clarity. Also? It’s a lot of fun. Such intellectual and geographic range - it’s everything a sharp provocative podcast should be.

-
Aimee HugStuff the British stoleI listen to a true variety of podcasts, however I am truly lucky I stumbled across this one ! Nice size episodes, but so so interesting. I ripped through all episodes in around 2-3 days and I wish there were more! Certainly there is more than enough of “ Stuff the British Stole” to keep the episodes coming. A particular episode The headhunters has really sat with me since I heard it. Give it a listen ! You’ll be glad you did.
-
Mrs TupperThoughtful and fun approach to understanding colonialismMy favourite podcast find of the year! The host is engaging and sounds like he’d be one of your cool friends who’s smart but doesn’t lord it over you. The topic of British colonialism isn’t the lightest of topics but through the host’s delivery of the content and through the lens of looting the topic is far more approachable.
-
Snoop MicheActivism by radio waves!!Loved this show !! In 1998 I visited the national museum in Brussels. Quite frankly I was shocked by the enormity of the artifacts it displayed from Africa (animals, butterflies, trees, minerals). I just cried. Your stories of the Māori repatriating their artifacts struck a chord with me. I hope that your show shames countries and museums into acts of reconciliation for all wronged cultures - Caribbean, Greek, Irish etc. and the monarchies should be fingered as accomplices and enablers.
-
jenmcleodGreat podcast!I love this podcast and I’m extremely picky.
-
KellyVanCityAddictiveI loved this podcast. I can’t wait to learn more!
-
AdrivetolistenVery interestingEnjoyed listening to the series. Love the interviews and people chosen to speak to. Reminds me how diverse and intermingled the world is. Helps shed light on the many artifacts in ‘safe’ keeping in museums and churches.
-
Gisele PoirierStuff the British StoleExcellent, informative podcast. It certainly encourages reflection regarding what is found in museums, and often, how artifiacts were acquired. We need more of these podcasts and greater efforts to repatriate works that were looted to their rightful owners. While this podcast is about the British and their looting practices, it is quite clear that many other countries participated in similar activities. Colonizers and others who stole cultural artifacts need to own their role and return works of art to their rightful owners. Keep up the great work Mark and team!

Beans1709Engaging & enraging - fantastic podcastGreat podcast: super interesting, the host is thoughtful, charismatic & intelligent, well researched & good pacing. Highly recommend if you’re into history. I went backpacking in Europe in 2005, the last stop was London. The British Museum left a bad taste in my mouth then because almost all of the truly interesting, spectacular items had been stolen from other countries, cultures. I had just been at the Acropolis in Greece, seen the ruins in Rome, etc. I’m from Canada & walking through the museum looking at all the totem poles & various other indigenous art & artefacts was … depressing & frustrating. I’m so happy you made this podcast - so much has been stolen from so many cultures & the historical perspective has been set by British/Colonial views.
-
I hate video gamesExciting!Exciting!!! Love everything about this well written and produced podcast. The weaving of stories is incredibly interesting. Totally thrilling and fascinating. Listen to it now!!!

JaneGSalimGreat podcastThe host is very pleasant to listen to. The pacing is good and never boring, the information is fascinating and moving, the experts are passionate and knowledgeable. All in all a great podcast, I only wish the episodes were longer and delved even deeper into the issues discussed.
